We have 4 main areas of programme activities.
These are:
. Human Rights and Advocacy
. Household Economic Empowerment
. Public Service Development
. Maasai Cultural Citizenship

Human Rights Advocacy
Why was this programme started?
It is common within a pastoral Maasai community that the men have power and ownership over land and valuable property and the women have no power over the land and even less rights. By having no rights or power over land and property, women in many Maasai communities have become submissive and women’s voices are uncommonly heard on the topic of land rights, unable to make decisions or choices.

What does this programme do?
This programme seeks to empower women when it comes to property and land right. It focuses on capacity building , raising awareness on constitutional rights, livestock, poverty eradication legislation and natural resource management.
Working closely with Maasai women within the community, MWEDO tries to address the problems of Human Rights by engaging women in the political cycle and creating a stronger economic and social female representation.

Household Economic Empowerment
Why was this programme started?
In a common pastoral community men dominate household economy and economic decision within a community or household are entirely dependent on the men creating oppression and exploitation off the women

What does this programme do?
MWEDO aims to advocate the importance of female economic empowerment within households and the community, striving to highlight the importance of female involvement in financial decision making.

Public Service Development
Why was this programme started?
Maasai communities are commonly marginalized from mainstream education and health services. A lack of information and access to information means Maasai communities remain under-developed and at a disadvantage to other Tanzanian communities. Ordinarily it is impossible for a mother to access a health service for her new born child, or for a young Maasai girl to access education.
What does this programme do?
The public service Development programme addresses the issues of Maasai communities accessing health and education services. MWEDO strives to implement basic health units in various Maasai districts so new mothers can access important maternal support and information on health topics can be accessed, for example HIV/AIDS education. More focus will be placed on the Pastoral women to ensure their development and empowerment within their own communities.

Maasai Cultural Citizenship
Why was this programme started?
Although MWEDO is behind the development of Maasai communities, it is focused on protecting the majority of the Maasai people, not wanting to destroy or neglect the majority of the traditions.

What does this programme do?
MWEDO aims to work with Maasai women, empowering them to take charge of their own development by creating access to accurate information, engaging them in decision making and communication theories and political practices with them. The program will promote cultural heritage whilst using existing and adaptive cultural strategies whilst employing indigenous knowledge through participation of cultural norms.
